Why Do You Need a Professional Business Portrait?

Importance of a Professional Business Portrait

Regardless of the line of work you are in, if you are promoting yourself, a great professional business headshot is a necessity. A professional headshot is a powerful tool for making people remember you. It is very much to your advantage to provide a headshot that people can identify with and remember you by.

A professional business headshot is more than just a great photo taken by a friend with an I-Phone or a hobbyist type camera. If you are using your headshot for business applications, then hire a professional photographer to capture and create a professional business headshot for you.

Personal branding portraits

There are many careers that can benefit from a polished, professional headshot. Doctors, lawyers, corporate executives, realtors, oil and gas professionals, financial investors and news anchors almost always require a professional headshot.

If your clients or customers see you, then a professional headshot will help plant your face more firmly in their mind. Of course, it is important that the headshot is of the highest quality. Anyone can post a picture of themselves on an online bio page, but if it does not convey the proper image, then it will not be a benefit in the long run. Creating a great headshot may seem simple, but like so many things, the little details matter.

Here’s the burning question: How do I find a great headshot photographer?

Thanks to the internet, finding a great professional business portrait photographer is much easier than it used to be. You should be able to find a wide assortment of professional headshot photographers just by searching for “headshots” in your favorite search engine.

Corporate Business Headshots

Be aware that due to the recent improvements and availability of inexpensive digital photography equipment, there are a lot more people offering photography services that are not really up to professional standards. Take your time and do your research!

There are many sites you can find that will list headshot photographers in your area, but the most important thing is to find someone whose work you like. Look at a variety of headshot portfolios until you’re satisfied. Also, ask other business associates or professionals for a referral and then look at that photographer’s online portfolio. After you have narrowed down to a few photographers to consider, the next step would be to contact the studio either by phone or email and see who is a good match for you.

Tips for a Successful Business Headshot

Are you looking for ways to make your business headshots stand out? Having a great professional portrait can be the key to success in any industry. It’s important that your business portrait show off your best self and convey professionalism.

Here are some tips for taking successful business portrait that will set you apart from the competition. These suggestions will help ensure that you capture the perfect shot for any occasion.

Tips for a Successful Business Headshot

1. Research
Research your portrait photography market for your style of business portraiture. Prices vary from low to high in all markets but compare at least 3 studio’s portfolios before basing a decision on price alone. Re-shoots can be a costly mistake.

2. Business Attire
Professional business attire is a key element in business portraits. Before a session, we recommend trying on 2 suit jackets to ensure a proper fit. For our market, a blue, gray or black suit jacket work well for our local industries. Click here for our clothing tips.

3. Your Expression
Capturing the right expression for your industry is critical. The incorrect expression can do more harm than good for an online presence. A professional can help create the correct expression for a specific industry.

4. Professional Lighting
Professional lighting can add or subtract weight to the subject’s face or overall image. The basic principles of broad lighting and short lighting techniques can help assist with some the lighting challenges.

5. Backgrounds
Professional studio backgrounds can add impact to an overall mood of a portrait. If you are looking for a change or an update to your headshot image, a professional can recommend and create a lighting design that will achieve such results.

6. Body language is paramount.
Seek a professional who’s attention to detail encompasses proper business posture. Improper posing can leave business attire unflattering and ill fitted. Business leaders should look like business leaders.

7. Finally, hire the best you can afford, its your BRANDING. A portrait professional can perform the above tasks in a timely manner. Creating a great image is 40% photography and 60% connecting with your target client.

Professional Business Portraits

A good business portrait can make you look more approachable and create a memorable first impression. To make the most out of your business headshots, it’s important to plan ahead by choosing the right photographer, selecting appropriate clothing and accessories, and making sure you’re in a comfortable environment. What is the Best Color to Wear for Professional Headshots?

When it comes to taking a professional headshot, there are many things to consider. One of the most important decisions is what color to wear. Color plays an important role in setting the tone for your portrait and can either enhance or detract from the overall image you present.

Black is one of the most popular colors for professional headshots due to its timelessness and versatility. Black is a classic choice that looks good on everyone, and makes people appear more authoritative and confident in their posed portrait. It also pairs well with almost any background and helps tie together other elements of the photo. Black clothing can be easily dressed up or down for formal or informal occasions by adding accessories like jewelry, scarves, ties, pocket squares, etc.

Dark neutrals like navy blue, charcoal gray, and olive green are also popular choices for professional portraits as they offer an elegant touch without being too distracting from the face. Navy blue helps bring out eyes while charcoal gray provides subtle contrast to lighter skin tones and enhances facial features such as cheekbones and jawlines. Olive green adds depth to photographs thanks to its richness and earthy tones that work well with both warm and cool color palettes.

No matter which color you choose for your professional headshot, it’s important to make sure that it fits your personal style while still looking appropriate for business settings. Also consider how different shades may affect the way you are perceived by others – bright colors may make you appear more approachable while muted tones convey a calming professionalism- so choose wisely! Lastly, be sure to consider how colors interact with each other when styling outfits; try different combinations of complimentary hues to find just the right combination for your photo session!

For men, you can add a pop of color with a tie or a pocket square.  For the ladies a colored shell is an option with jewelry as an accent to the overall portrait. Solid colored clothing is always best for a portrait.

In conclusion, choosing the right color for your professional headshot can make a big impact on the overall look and feel of your photo. Black, white, and dark neutrals like navy blue, charcoal gray, or olive green are all great choices that will help you create a timeless yet modern portrait. Consider your personal style as well as how different hues may affect others’ perceptions of you before deciding on a color palette. By taking these steps, you’ll be sure to have an amazing headshot that conveys confidence and professionalism!

What Should a Woman Wear for a Professional Headshot?

When considering what to wear for a professional headshot, it is important to remember that your clothing should be both flattering and appropriate. Women should choose a classic outfit that coordinates well with the background of their image. A simple, tasteful dress in a single color or neutral tone is ideal.

Your outfit should reflect professionalism and help to bring out your features. Avoid busy patterns, logos, and bright colors that can be distracting. Accessories should also be kept to a minimum; small stud earrings, a watch, and a simple necklace are all great options.

What type of clothing do I bring?

At Michael Carr Photography, Michael will consult with you on your attire for your business portrait. A good rule of thumb is to stick to timeless and classic clothing that you feel confident in. Form fitting outfits tend to be more flattering than loose or baggy clothing. We always recommend that clients bring with them several outfits to choose from. We can look at your wardrobe with you and select the best outfit for your portraits. Solid colored clothing is always best for a portrait.
