New Look For Your Business Portrait

Office Environment Backgrounds

  • Modern Professional Headshots

Houston business portrait photographer, Michael Carr, offers a variety of office environment backgrounds for your business portraits here in our studio. You can come to our studio and achieve the look of an office with a view, a light and bright office setting, or even greenery. Our office environment background is the perfect option for the busy professional that works remotely or their office does not have the space for an on location session. Several companies also opt for this background option if executives work all over the US and they want a cohesive look among all the executives on the bio pages.

The office environment look is a great choice if you want your image to look different and a step above the others. You have the option for a head and shoulder, ¾ length session or a combo of the two. Many C-level executives like to have the option to change clothing or outfits when opting for a multiple look session.

Consult:
Call us to discuss which background appeals to you: classicon location or the office environment background. We will discuss the number of looks you are wanting with your session and the background you are wanting as well.

Clothing:
We will consult with you on your attire for your business portrait. A good rule of thumb is to stick to timeless and classic clothing that you feel confident in. We always recommend that clients bring with them several outfits to choose from. We can look at your wardrobe with you and select the best outfit for your portrait. Solid colored clothing is always best for a portrait. For men, you can add a pop of color with a tie or a pocket square. For the ladies a colored shell is an option with jewelry as an accent to the overall portrait. We have clothing tips on our site here. For 3/4 length portraits we recommend that you try on your clothes and make sure they fit properly before your session. If your clothes do not fit well, or if they are snug, it will show in your portrait. Make sure you are confident in the attire you select and that all clothing is pressed. For ladies, we have a nearby partner salon that can take care of your hair and makeup. Please inquire about this before your session.

After Your Session:
At the conclusion of your business portrait session, we will review all the images captured and help you with final image selections. Our studio is centrally located in The Galleria area, 77057, and between three major Houston freeways: I-10, 610, and 59. If you would like to discuss your business portrait or book your session, please call the studio at 713-461-2862  and we can help you.

5 Women’s Casual Business Portrait Tips

1. In-Studio Sessions

In-studio Portrait sessions are ideal for busy female professionals. At Michael Carr Photography, we offer a professional studio within a commercial office building. Amenities include a controlled environment, a full dressing room, wifi, and on-set viewing of your session images as they are being captured. Each women’s portraits begins with a consultation to discuss your session goals, where the images will be used for marketing collateral, and what format and sizes are required for final images. At the end of your portrait session, you will review your images and make your selections. A digital artist will edit your final images in digital enhancement software to soften puffiness under the eyes, minimize smile lines and refine your portrait.

2. Attire & Accessories
For the Women’s Casual Portrait, we want the portrait to emphasize you. Blouses, skirts, dresses, and jackets should be in a solid color or have a light pattern. Feel free to bring up to 3-5 clean, well-pressed outfits to your session. If you normally wear glasses, wear them in your portrait. Lastly, when it comes to jewelry, less is best. We recommend wearing pearls or diamonds for a classic and polished look.

3. Grooming
Female professionals should have their hair and make-up done by a professional hairstylist and makeup artist the day of your women portraits session. A professional makeup artist will highlight your best features and choose the right colors to compliment your outfit for your photography session. We are happy to provide recommendations upon request. Also, consider your hands as they may show in your portrait. Some clients opt to get a manicure before their session and select a clear polish or neutral color for their nails.

4. Background Selection & Image Usage
Depending on your image specs and requirements, we will select a white, graphite or gray background that will compliment your attire. Please know in advance if your business portrait is head and shoulders or ¾ length or full-body length. Also please provide us any specific website or file specs you have for your final digital images.

5. Posing and Expression

To capture your executive presence, we recommend an expression that exudes confidence and leadership traits. Be careful with the excessive head tilting or straight on approach in your casual Business Portrait. For some, a closed mouth expression with a slight expression in the eyes works best. For others, a slight expression in the smile and eyes works better. In either case, approachability is the key. Proper body language and posing are as important as expression and clothing. As in any profession, the quality is in the details.

Houston Real Estate Headshots

Upon completion of your real estate course and certification, the task of creating your marketing plan is on the horizon. A professional business portrait of yourself should be a key element of your marketing plan. This is called “Self Branding.” You are now marketing yourself and services to your current and your desired audience. Why not seek a professional photographer to help create a portrait that depicts why people should trust you over someone else in a competitive market?

A professional business portrait can separate you from the masses. During your business portrait session as well as during image selection phase, careful attention is needed to analyze what this image ultimately conveys about you.

Unfortunately not all business portraits and business headshots are created equally.
Onsite “Cattle call sessions” are hit and miss and often times result in a negative experience. We have heard from our clients that have been through an experience of an onsite “cattle call” or the company just going with the cheapest person for the photography job, and the results of either is often times less than desirable. Save yourself time and patience and hire a professional photographer who specializes in portraiture. You have earned your credentials and now is the time to invest in yourself by demanding quality professional photography that speaks volumes about you.

Here are a few common amateur business pictures shortcomings, and what to look for:

• Harsh or flat lighting
• Improper posing, which can add weight to the person in the image
• Busy backgrounds that distract from the subject
• Clothing not adjusted
• Digital retouching is non-existent or overpowering

Michael Carr Photography is a commercial portrait photography studio in the Galleria /Tanglewood area that has served the greater Houston business community for 21 years. We are Certified Professional Photographers (CPP) with Professional Photographers of America (PPA), a national organization. In today’s market, corporate leaders are looking for ways to brand themselves and market their services in a different manner than their competition. Executive portraiture can help you place a cutting edge on your services vs your competitor and ultimately determine who ends up getting the phone call. Your corporate image speaks volumes about you and your business. In a digital age where searching for services is occurring during all hours of the day, it is key to have your best image forward at all times. A headshot is not just a headshot. It is your personal branding.

Every industry and corporate position has a unique look and persona for their business portrait. A prime example of this is that a trial attorney would not be photographed in the same manner as a marketing representative.

People want to connect with people who are industry professionals and you also need to be viewed as someone they can trust.

The Importance of a Great Headshot

Houston Headshot Photographer

Regardless of the line of work you are in, if you are promoting yourself, a great headshot is a necessity. A professional headshot is a powerful tool for making people remember you. It is very much to your advantage to provide a headshot that people can identify with and remember you by. A professional business headshot is more than just a great photo taken by a friend with an I-Phone or a hobbyist type camera. If you are using your headshot for business applications, then hire a professional photographer to capture and create a professional business headshot for you.

There are many careers that can benefit from a polished, professional headshot. Doctors, lawyers, corporate executives, realtors, oil and gas professionals, financial investors and news anchors almost always require a professional headshot.

If your clients or customers see you, then a professional headshot will help plant your face more firmly in their mind. Of course, it is important that the headshot is of the highest quality. Anyone can post a picture of themselves on an online bio page, but if it does not convey the proper image, then it will not be a benefit in the long run. Creating a great headshot may seem simple, but like so many things, the little details matter.

Here’s the burning question: how do I find a great headshot photographer?
Thanks to the internet, finding a great headshot photographer is much easier than it used to be. You should be able to find a wide assortment of professional headshot photographers just by searching for “headshots” in your favorite search engine.

Be aware that due to the recent improvements and availability of inexpensive digital photography equipment, there are a lot more people offering photography services that are not really up to professional standards. Take your time and do your research!

There are many sites you can find that will list headshot photographers in your area, but the most important thing is to find someone whose work you like. Look at a variety of headshot portfolios until you’re satisfied. Also, ask other business associates or professionals for a referral and then look at that photographer’s online portfolio. After you have narrowed down to a few photographers to consider, the next step would be to contact the studio either by phone or email and see who is a good match for you.

To discuss your business headshots and options for your business portraits, call the studio at 713-461-2862. We can help you formulate your plan for your headshot images to stand out from the masses. You can view our portfolio here. Our studio is conveniently located near the Galleria area, and close to 610, I-10 and 59, so there is easy access from those freeways.
